Ballet: The Beautiful Blending of Music and Dance
What do Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty have in common? They have all been turned into ballets by some of the greatest composers and choreographers the world has to offer. Ballet is a very old art form, originating in 15th century Italy. It soon spread to France, where King Louis XIV helped make it popular by performing many lead roles in the dances himself. By the end of the 19th century, Russia had embraced ballet and composers like Glinka and Tchaikovsky brought beautiful music to the stage. Ballet has kept pace with modern times as companies such as New York City Ballet continue to push the envelope with innovations.
